| Aurora Guest House |
![]() Aurora Guesthouse The guest house has 6 well equipped rooms for foreign independent travellers with satellite TV, a bar fridge, air conditioning and hot and cold showers which sometimes work. Rates are good value at $14 USD (no breakfast) however, the rooms are small and have seen better days. In competition with the new Sandalwood Hotel just around the corner, the owner has just installed personalised satellite TV receivers in two rooms on the third floor, each with their own satellite dish. There are some 110 channels that you can choose from, ranging from Thai, Indian, Myanmar, Nepalese, Bangladeshi and interestingly, Russian TV, being the only free channel in English. There are also basic rooms with no windows but with fans and shared bathroom facilities for $5 a day. As with most Myanmar guest houses of this size, a communal TV can be found on the main floor where you can mingle with the manager and other travellers, foreign and locals alike. The guest house has a generator in the event of power black-outs which occurs daily, however, it is used sparingly, and usually only at night or early morning. Locals know this guesthouse by its Myanmar name, Moe Thout Phan so if you're wanting to get there by seikah or taxi, you'll need to call it by this name which can be a little tricky to pronounce. If you do have trouble, then print off this address card and hand it to your driver. Rates: $14 USD for superior rooms, (no breakfast); $5 USD for basic fan rooms.
