As with many other places in Myanmar, Mawlamyine's accommodation choices are somewhat limited and over priced when compared with similar type standard accommodation in neighbouring Thailand. Blackouts and electricity rationing is common place in Mawlamyine and some of the bigger hotels have diesel powered generators to counter this problem. The smaller establishments also have diesel powered generators but are only used in the evenings, during emergencies or when there's an important soccer match to be seen on satellite TV. Travellers should note that some facilities may not be available 24/7 if their accommodation establishment has limited use of backup power generators.
