Numerous streetside food stalls offering anything from skewed grilled chicken, to Indian style roti, to fried noodles and rice exists in Mawlamyine. Hygiene, however, is always a problem for the traveller whose digestive system isn't quite ready for consumption at such places. So make sure the food is freshly cooked and don't buy anything that's been left standing for most of the day, or overnight. Food can go off very quickly in the tropical climate of Mawlamyine.

A number of restaurants are also available in Mawlamyine, but whether such places are more hygienic than street stalls is arguable. Prices for dishes at restaurants are usually a lot more expensive than their street stall counterparts however and you'll find more charm and intrigue with the street stalls especially for their the lack of sophistication.
