Informatics, Zeigyo, Mawlamyine
Informatics has the honour of being the first public Internet access point in Mawlamyine, dating back to 2004 when their local area network connected to the Internet using a satellite modem from IPstar Technologies. Mainly a computer training school based on the popular Singapore chain of ICT training centers, they do keep a few terminals available for public Internet access.

It is located at Zeigyo not far from the old highway bus station around the corner from Japan Computer Center diagonally opposite the Zeigyo mosque. Although 3 terminals have been set aside for public access, staff however will make available other terminals from their classroom if there are no classes taking place. The computers here however, are relatively old, running Windows XP and old style 14 inch CRT monitors. With the ever increasing number of public Internet access centres in Mawlamyine with newer and faster equipment, Informatics would probably be your last choice, however do visit here for the historical reason that this was once the only place that connected Mawlamyine to the the rest of the world through the Internet. Their mostly female staff are extremely friendly and very helpful, although few speak English.

Charges for surfing the web here is 1000 kyat an hour and the centre opens at 8:30am and closes around 6:00pm or later if there are classes or students still around practising their IT skills. Unfortunately, when blackouts occur here, Internet access is not possible even when their backup generator is running. Using satellite broadband, however, has its limitations and during the rainy season from June through to September,  the quality of the link may deteriorate to such an extent that the Internet access slows to a crawl or drops out altogether.
